例如:I commute by train.(我搭火車通勤。)
可以說 take the MRT、take a bus 或 take the train,不說 take a MRT。
2. replace A with B:用 B 取代 A。例如 I could replace one car trip a week with a train ride.
4. reduce emissions:
其他常用搭配包括 build a commuting habit、increase transit ridership、ease congestion、walk the last mile、encourage a modal shift,以及 make mobility more accessible。
Whenever possible, I take public transit for the longest part of my trip and walk the rest of the way.
Whenever possible 先承認天候、時間和路線可能有限制;the rest of the way 才是自然的「剩下的路」,不要寫成 the left road。
A low-carbon commuting campaign has a lasting impact only when safe, convenient, and affordable alternatives are available to people with different needs.
only when 用來說明政策成效的必要條件;
From a One-Day Event to a Daily Travel Habit World Car-Free Day is commonly observed on or around September 22. It invites people to imagine streets with fewer private cars and more room for walking, cycling, and public transportation. A single awareness day can attract attention, but changing how people travel usually takes more than a slogan. People need time to test alternatives, solve practical problems, and repeat a new choice until it becomes familiar. Taichung is using this longer-term approach in its 2026 low-carbon commuting campaign. The program runs from August 15 through October 31. It encourages residents to record trips made by public transit, bicycles, and selected shared mobility services. Participants may receive rewards after meeting the official requirements. Exact eligibility, calculation methods, and reward rules must be checked on the city’s campaign page. Why use rewards? Behavioral research often distinguishes between starting a behavior and maintaining it. A small benefit may persuade a commuter to try the metro or a shared bicycle. During that trial, the person learns the route, travel time, cost, and possible difficulties. If the experience is reliable, the new option may continue even after the reward ends. If buses are too infrequent or sidewalks are unsafe, however, motivation alone is unlikely to create a lasting habit. This is why sustainable mobility is broader than telling everyone to stop driving. Different travelers face different conditions. A student may be able to cycle three kilometers, while a night-shift worker may have no transit service after work. A parent traveling with a young child has needs that a solo commuter does not. Fair policy therefore requires safe, convenient, affordable, and accessible choices. For individuals, a useful first step is to examine one regular trip rather than redesign every journey at once. Divide the trip into parts: the main route, transfers, and the last mile. Then identify one realistic substitution. A commuter might take a train for the longest section and walk the final ten minutes. Tracking the result can reveal whether the change saves money, adds exercise, reduces stress, or creates new difficulties. The goal is not a perfect car-free identity. It is better information and a travel habit that can be repeated.

6. Complete the sentence with one to three words per blank: Rewards may help commuters ______ a new option, but lasting change also requires reliable and ______ alternatives.
7. In 15–25 English words, why does the passage suggest changing one regular trip first?
提示:be about / practical change / sustain 答案與解析
7. Because a small, realistic change is easier to test, evaluate, and repeat than redesigning every journey.
8. Low-carbon commuting is not about being perfect; it is about finding one practical change that you can sustain.
先畫出一趟固定旅程,標示 home、main route、transfer point、destination 與 last mile。
I usually commute by scooter. I could take the bus for the main part of the trip. The main barrier is the long wait after 9 p.m. More frequent evening service would make the option easier to sustain.
What can I change? What prevents the change? What would make it sustainable?
【Key Takeaways】 •
low-carbon 不等於 zero-emission。 •
replace A with B
Which part of your regular trip could you realistically change?
